-conditioning
P18
“Books and
loud noises, flowers and electric shocks-already in the infant mind.”
In order to
make people hate a thing, they electrify them [shriller and ever shriller].
They use immoral way to make those kids instinctively hate something which is
called “reflexes unalterably conditioned.” it is also a democracy of showing
director’s power.
Page 13
“All
conditioning aims at that: making people like their unescapablesocial destiny.”
Page 19
“we condition
the masses to hate the country, but simultaneously we condition them to love
all country sports.”
Both sentences
spoken by the Director shows that the powerful of conditioning . The Director
has the ability to make people like or dislike a thing. In the other words,
everything they does to manufacture the world is through conditioning.
The powerful of conditioning and those people’s
unescapable destiny.
P19“Gammas,
Deltas, even Epsilons had been conditioned to like flowers.”
Irony that
which used to be conditioned to like, is later conditioned to hate.
“Abolish the
love of nature, at any rate among the lower classes.”---class system
P79 “Some men
are almost rhinoceroses; they don’t respond properly to conditioning.”
This sentence
spoken by Henry shows the idea that conditioning are also make negative side.
P66
“Everyone
works for everyone else. ”
It is one of
the conditioning that being soaked in people’s mind. While even they
rememorizes the first time of conditioning , it is a shock of fear and
surprise.
P66
“If you were
an Epsilon, your conditioning would have made you no less thankful that you
weren’t a Beta or an Alpha.”
The situation
is that they know themselves are being differently conditioned. Hence, they
have different heredity.
P16
Neo-Pavlovian Conditioning Rooms
P17 "Now
turn them so that they can see the flowers and books." Babies go to the
pictures-
"The Head
Nurse who was standing by a switchboard... pressed down a little lever."
"There
was a violent explosion... sounded."
"The
children started... terror."
"Now we
proceed... with a mild electric shock."
"There
was something... stiffened."
"Offer
them the flowers and the books again."
"At the
approach of the roses... howling suddenly increased."
"Bookds
and loud noises... completely linked."
"They'll
be sage from books and botary all their lives."
How does
Pavlovian conditioning work?
1) any object
is connected to a pleasurable or painful experience.
2) The
repetition is called reinforcement(making the 'feeling' stronger)
3)This
connects the "object" with the pleasure or pain so that the person
either hates or loves these objects.
4)Pain comes
regection pleasure causes acceptance and desire.
5)The
connection is made very strong by having the pleasurable or painful experience
many times.
The society in
Brave new world does very gruesome things to condition their infants to not
only accept their status in society, but love their status also. Conditioning
is a learning process in which an organism's behavior becomes dependent on the
occurrence of a stimulus. In our world today, people always use conditioning to
complete their wishes. Boss condition employees with fear of losing a job that
is a stimulate for employees to perform job better. Babies condition mothers to
feed immediately with crying loudly. Similarly there are many occurrences of
stimulus that governs our everyday behavior, habits and preferences. And our
mind gets conditioned through repetition of such acts or activities. This is
the reason why breaking a habit is not an easy task for most of us.

In ancient
world slaves are conditioned by monarchs with cruel method. Monarchs or Lords
hardly torture their slaves when they do something wrong in order to stimulate
their slaves do better job and take orders from them forever. William Faulkner
once said that “Given a choice between grief and nothing, I’d choose grief!”
Well, I guess that really captures the human emotional factor we also have to
consider. He may even have mentioned pain, suffering, death and disaster to
complement grief and most people would still buy that over nothing.
